The Plastic Sandwiches released a self financed single in 1981 on the Ellie Jay record label which sold for a while at Back's Records. They played at a number of venues in and around Norwich and Dereham around this time. Most notable gigs were at the Gala Ball Rooms (now the Megazone), The Prince of Denmark (with Bang Goes My Stereo) and The Jacquard (with Serious Drinking and The Screaming Trees).
The line-up consisted of:

Guy Pearson: Vocals
Michael Joseph Dennis: Guitars
Toby Moyle (EX- The Mental): Bass
Harry Loughlin: Drums

The band had a line up change in 1982:

Guy Pearson: Vocals
Michael (Joss) Joseph: Guitar
Rob Sneesby: Bass
Dean (Isaac) Newton: Drums

With this line up they continued to gig throughout East Anglia. During this time they played and won 1982 "battle of the bands" at the Memorial hall in East Dereham and also went on to record an unfufilled demo at Whitehouse studios, Norwich. Before parting Joss and Guy went on to form "The Amputees". Meanwhile both Rob and Dean went on to be part of another Norwich Scene band of the early 1980's called "Alice". Hailing from East Dereham they played gigs all over Norwich and surrounding area at venues such as The Louis Marchese, The Jacquard and The Hog in Armour, The Mustard Pot - Whinburgh and The Bell - Rickenhall
